Vending Machine Can Cause Death

Shop Theft

‘Shop Theft is a Crime’. Many Singaporeans would have heard of or seen that line on police notices such as the one above.

Isn’t that phrase very awkward? Does it mean that other types of theft are not criminal, or less severe? Why not ‘Shoplifting is a Crime’?

The best part is, an image of a thief stealing a pushcart always comes to my mind whenever I read such notices. Car theft – you steal the car. Shop theft – you steal the shop.
