Singapore General Elections 2011

An opposition GRC win will attract more talented people to join opposition ranks, hopefully resulting in at least one opposition party strong enough to challenge the PAP to form an alternative government in future.

While there are merits to having a single hegemonic party, it may succumb to group think, and disagreeing party members have to vote in accordance to the party’s stand on issues. More quality opposition members in parliament should lead to better debate in parliamentary meetings.

But any political change should be gradual, over the course of decades.
